What it is

The Héroes del Chaco Bridge (Cháko Ava'uvicha Yvovorasa in Guaraní) crosses the Paraguay River and joins Asunción with Nueva Asunción, formerly Chaco'i, in the Presidente Hayes department. It was designed to relieve the Remanso Bridge, about 8 km upstream, and to improve the link between the country's two regions. It is a cable-stayed structure with two lanes in each direction, a bike path and a pedestrian walkway. The bridge itself is 2,609 metres long; with its approaches, the whole project reaches 7,409 metres from the Asunción waterfront to Nueva Asunción.
