Museo Científico Jakob Unger
A Chaco natural history museum with birds, mammals, insects and Indigenous objects, grown from the collection of Jakob Unger and his son.
What it is
On Avenida Hindenburg, this museum gathers much of what lives in the Chaco scrubland under one roof. It has mounted mammals, birds and insects, an ornithological collection of more than 190 of the roughly 250 species of the Central Chaco, and displays of the region's trees, shrubs and cacti. It also keeps ethnological objects from the Indigenous peoples of the Chaco, which makes it a good first stop to understand the landscape and its people before heading out into the bush.

History
The collection began with the research of Jakob Unger and his son, later donated and expanded with the support of the Fernheim Association.
Tips
- Combine it with the Knelsenhaus, the Casa de la Colonia and the Industrial Museum, all a few blocks away.
- Several Fernheim museums are visited by prior arrangement: ask at the colony tourism office.

Best time: Year-round; May to September is more comfortable for walking around town.
