Museo Casa de la Colonia (Koloniehaus)
A 1933-1934 building raised by communal effort: it was the administrative seat of the Fernheim colony and is now its history museum.
What it is
The Casa de la Colonia, or Koloniehaus, was built in 1933-1934 through communal work. For many years it served as the administrative office and meeting hall of the Fernheim colony, which is why it is seen as a symbol of community identity. It survives almost untouched, as it was first built. Inside you will find documents, photographs and objects telling the story of the colony's beginnings and growth, a good companion to the other museums in Filadelfia.
What to see and do
- Documents and photos from Fernheim's early years
- Original 1933-1934 architecture
- Central location on Avenida Hindenburg
Did you know…?
It was raised through a "minga", the collective work tradition that is still a living word in Paraguay.
It looks almost the same as when it was built in 1933-1934.
History
For the colony's 50th anniversary, the building was restored and turned into a museum.
Tips
- It is richer with a guide: arrange one at the Fernheim tourism office.
