What it is
Oscar Nelson Safuán (San Estanislao, 1943 – Rio Grande do Sul, 2007) formed a trio as a young man and in 1962 traveled to Foz do Iguaçu and Curitiba to take Paraguayan music to Brazil. He settled in São Paulo, studied solfège and theory, and worked as an arranger. In 1974 he began researching a fusion of guarania and polka, and in 1977 presented the avanzada in Asunción. His trio, 'Los tres soles', improvised a sixty-stripe poncho from a striped fabric they found.
