Félix Pérez Cardozo

The harpist who revolutionized the Paraguayan harp (Hyaty, 1908 – Buenos Aires, 1952).

What it is

Born in Hyaty, in the Guairá department, he expanded the harp's technical possibilities: more strings, independent hands and new effects. He found success in the River Plate region and composed pieces such as 'Tren lechero', 'Llegada' and 'El arriero', as well as his celebrated version of 'Pájaro campana'. He died of a heart attack at his home in Buenos Aires on June 9, 1952, at the age of 43.

His hometown was renamed Félix Pérez Cardozo, and the Argentine folk singer Atahualpa Yupanqui dedicated the 'Canción del arpa dormida' to him, with music by Herminio Giménez.
