Eladio Martínez
'El Grande': singer, guitarist and composer, voice of the Trío Olímpico.
What it is
Eladio Martínez (Paraguarí, 1912 – Asunción, 1990), nicknamed 'El Grande', was a folk singer and composer. He settled in Asunción in 1928 and in 1931 traveled to Montevideo and then Buenos Aires, where he hosted radio programs for fifteen years. He composed 'Lucerito alba' and 'Noches guaireñas', among others. In 1948 he formed the Trío Olímpico to travel to London. He wrote the music for the film 'El trueno entre las hojas', with a screenplay by Augusto Roa Bastos. In 1979 he performed in Japan as part of cultural events around a youth football World Cup.
