A pioneer of the Nuevo Cancionero: 'Despertar' and 'Soy de la chacarita'.
What it is
Maneco Galeano, stage name of Félix Roberto Galeano Mieres (Puerto Pinasco, 1945 – Asunción, 1980), was a musician, journalist and teacher. In 1962 his family moved to Buenos Aires; back in Paraguay, he helped found the newspaper ABC Color in 1967. He taught music at Colegio San José. He is regarded as the pioneer and leading figure of the Nuevo Cancionero. His last work, 'Poncho de sesenta listas', took second prize at the first Festival Ypacaraí de la Composición Musical in 1980; he died that same year at 35.
