What it is
Florentín Giménez (Ybycuí, 1925 – Asunción, 2021) started at 15 in the Capital Police band. He formed the orchestra 'Ritmos de América' and later a modern típica orchestra. In 1953 he was detained for resisting authoritarian governments, and in 1956 left the country. He composed six symphonies, symphonic poems and the first Paraguayan opera, 'Juana de Lara'. Law 858/96 created the National Conservatory of Music, which he directed, and he led the National Symphony Orchestra.
