Fernando Centurión
A violinist and composer who wrote the first Paraguayan symphonic works.
What it is
Fernando Centurión (1886–1938) studied at the conservatories of Liège and Paris. In 1911 he founded the Haydn quartet and directed the performers' school 'Gimnasio Paraguayo'. He wrote the country's first symphonic works, including 'Marcha heroica', 'Serenata guaraní' and 'Capricho sobre un tema paraguayo'.
