Laguna Punta Porã
An urban lagoon on the Brazilian border, historic origin of the city, with the Monument to the Pioneer and traditional ox-carts.
What it is
Punta Porã lagoon lies on the boundary between Pedro Juan Caballero and its Brazilian twin city, Ponta Porã. It is the city's historic point of origin: around the year 1800 it was a resting place for those hauling yerba mate. On its shore there is a Monument to the Pioneer and traditional ox-carts are on display. A local legend says whoever reaches the lagoon is enchanted and will come back. It is a pleasant stroll to alternate with border shopping.

History
According to La Nación, the city grew around the lagoon around 1800, when it was a rest stop for yerba mate transport.
