What it is

'La tejedora de ñandutí' is a zarzuela by Juan Carlos Moreno González with a libretto by Juan Manuel Frutos Pane. It premiered on 15 August 1956 at Asunción's Teatro Municipal Ignacio A. Pane and is considered the first Paraguayan zarzuela. In the 1950s Moreno González and Frutos Pane created a musical-comedy genre inspired by Spanish zarzuela, with rural and folk themes, that filled theaters for nearly two decades.
