Himno Nacional Paraguayo (versión de Remberto Giménez)

The music heard today is the reconstruction Remberto Giménez presented in 1933–34.

What it is

After the War of the Triple Alliance, several musicians reconstructed the anthem from what surviving soldiers remembered. The authorship of the music was debated for decades and attributed to three possible musicians. In 1933 President Eusebio Ayala commissioned Remberto Giménez to arrange it, and in 1934, after a national survey and a commission's ruling, the government declared his version authentic; it is the one used to this day. The official text is by Francisco Acuña de Figueroa.

Did you know…?

In 1958 Remberto Giménez became the first Paraguayan musician to conduct a European symphony orchestra.
