Estación de Doctor Moisés S. Bertoni (ex Estación Sosa)
A station on the Caazapá–Yuty branch that in 1931 was renamed after Swiss naturalist Moisés Bertoni.
What it is
In the centre of Doctor Moisés S. Bertoni, in Caazapá department, the train station is a tourist attraction. It was established as Estación Sosa, on a branch between Caazapá and Yuty. On 27 July 1931 a decree from President José P. Guggiari changed the name in honour of Swiss researcher Moisés Bertoni (1857–1929). The town has festivals of its own: in October the patronal feast of Santa Teresa de Jesús is held with horse races and a festival called Isla Susu, and every 24 February a rodeo takes place in the Santa Teresa district with associations from all over the country. It is a stop for anyone following the railway's footprints in Caazapá, along with Maciel and Yuty.
