Danzas de salón de la época de los López

Lancers, quadrille, palomita and waltz: the ballroom dances that the people adapted.

What it is

Under the Lópezes, European engineers, architects and artists came to Asunción, and with them the fashion for ballroom dances. Madame Lynch, partner of Marshal López, promoted these dances at the Club Nacional: lancers, quadrille, contradanza, londón, palomita, waltz, mazurka and polka were danced. Over time the people adopted them with modifications and folded them into the popular repertoire. The palomita already appears in Luis Cavedagni's 'Álbum de los Toques más Populares del Paraguay' (1887).
