Londón karapé

An old couples' dance with a name that mixes Guaraní and Spanish.

What it is

The Londón karapé is a couples' dance with its own music, with two choreographic and musical versions. One popular explanation of the name links it to the squatting move in its choreography and a Guaraní expression associated with partying. Some of the music used was collected by Juan Max Boettner and Julián Rejala. It was danced in the ballrooms of the López era and in the camps of the Great War.
