Paraguay Rembi’u Food Festival
Cooks from dozens of towns bring more than eighty regional dishes to the capital, cooked on the spot, with free entry.
What it is
Rembi’u means “food” in Guarani, and this festival is a trip around Paraguay in a single square. It’s organized by the federation of associations of people from the interior living in the capital: cooks from dozens of towns prepare more than 80 dishes live (2026 edition), from the chastaca (dried beef) empanadas of Fuerte Olimpo to Horqueta’s kavure (cassava-and-cheese dough baked on a stick) and surubí chupín (catfish stew). The proceeds go back to schools, health centers and communities in each town. There’s live music and a festive, popular atmosphere.
What to see and do
- More than 80 regional dishes in one place
- Specialties rarely seen in Asunción, such as northern kavure
- Free entry and live music
Tips
Arrive early: the most sought-after dishes run out. Bring cash in guaraníes and a bag to take home chipas and sweets. August is cool and dry, ideal for eating outdoors.
Dates may shift to the nearest weekend.
