Paraguayan and popular music in the town of Friar Luis de Bolaños’s legendary spring: one of the biggest festivals outside the capital.
What it is
Legend has it that during a drought, Friar Luis de Bolaños struck a rock with his staff and water gushed out: the Ykua Bolaños (ykua means “spring” in Guarani), a spring that never runs dry and is said to smile on lovers. The festival named after it gathers national artists every January at Caazapá’s Ignacio Falcón Real Sports Center, spanning Paraguayan folk music, cumbia and comedy, with international guests in some years. By day it’s a great excuse to see the spring and the Franciscan church of San Pablo with its colonial altarpiece.
