Danza Joven (Jeroky Pyahu)
Free programme of workshops and Paraguayan dance performances by the National Folk Ballet, aimed at students.
What it is
Danza Joven is a programme of the National Culture Secretariat, run by the National Folk Ballet and repeated every year since 1994, that aims to bring dance closer to children and young people and build an attentive audience for the arts. It has two stages: first, Paraguayan dance workshops, then the performances titled Fortaleciendo lo nuestro (Strengthening what is ours), which in 2024 ran Monday to Friday, morning and afternoon, at the Sitio de Memoria y Centro Cultural 1A Ycuá Bolaños in Asunción. It is free and designed for public and private schools, which reserve places with the SNC. It is not a mass festival, but it is a good window into how the state looks after and teaches traditional dances.
