Visita panorámica a la Central Hidroeléctrica Itaipú
A free guided panoramic visit to the Itaipú power plant, with advance booking and morning and afternoon departures.
What it is
This is the classic visit to one of the largest engineering works in the world. It is a panoramic tour: groups leave from the Visitor Reception Center in Hernandarias and cover the parts of the plant that are open to the public, with explanations of how the energy is generated. It is run by Itaipú Binacional itself through its Tourism Office. Note: the night-time Monumental Illumination of the dam stopped being offered to the public in August 2026 while the whole lighting system is replaced; Itaipú said it would be out of service for roughly a year, so check whether it is back before planning an evening in Hernandarias.
Schedule
Itaipú listed departures at 08:00, 09:00, 10:00, 10:30, 13:10, 14:00 and 14:30 in May 2026 (they change on holidays and by season). Check current times before you go.
Cost
Free of charge according to Itaipú (May 2026).
How to book
Book through Itaipú's Visitor Portal (apps.itaipu.gov.py/PWAP), by phone at (061) 599 8040 / 8094 or by email at cturistico@itaipu.gov.py. You need an ID document and must check in at the Visitor Reception Center in Hernandarias.
