Ofelia Echagüe Vera
Painter and teacher
What it is
Born in Asunción, she studied with local teachers, in Montevideo and at Buenos Aires's Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes. Her first solo show was in 1946 and already displayed her trademarks: solid figures, space organized in planes and strong expressiveness. She took part in a group show of women painters that marked a shift in the role of women in Paraguayan visual arts. She was a teacher of Olga Blinder.
