Sugarcane Spirit Route (Piribebuy)
A day among sugar mills and distilleries of Paraguayan caña, with tastings and the story of the national spirit.
What it is
The Ruta de la Caña takes visitors to trapiches (traditional sugarcane mills) and distilleries in Piribebuy to see how sugarcane becomes cane syrup, alcohol and caña paraguaya (Paraguayan sugarcane spirit), with tastings and stories from the producers. It was declared of cultural interest in 2026, and that same year the know-how behind Paraguayan caña was formally declared cultural heritage. The area also offers the Liqueur and Honey Route and the Procole Cheese Tour.

Spots are limited and booked through tour operators; check the dates before you go each year. If you’re tasting, don’t drive: organized transport is the way to go.
