Piribebuy is the home of the poncho para’i de 60 listas, an exceptionally fine cotton poncho whose ancestral weaving techniques are on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. The festival, now more than two decades old, brings together bands competing for the crowd’s applause—measured by an “applause meter” on a giant screen—along with guest artists, crafts and traditional food. It’s a good excuse to visit the new poncho interpretation center and the summer swimming spots.
