Since 1977, Guarambaré has honored sugarcane with a big music, singing, dance and poetry competition.
What it is
Takuare’ẽ means “sugarcane” in Guarani, and the festival honors the people of Guarambaré who made their living from the crop. Under the motto “Paraguay and the world sing and dance in Guarambaré,” it has brought together singers, dancers and poets since 1977, competing in more than forty categories after preliminary rounds held around the country. The final nights, at the Club Luis Alberto de Herrera, are an intense showcase of Paraguayan folklore.

Tips
The main night starts around 8 p.m. and ends late. Guarambaré is about 30 km from Asunción: combine it with the roadside stands selling ice-cold mosto.
