Santiago

Santiago keeps its mission-town layout and the feel of an estancia (cattle ranch): a broad plaza, colonial houses and horses. Its Museo Tesoros Jesuíticos (Jesuit Treasures Museum) displays more than 50 wooden images across four rooms, and the parish church holds, according to SENATUR, the only complete Jesuit altarpiece in the country, plus an equestrian carving of Saint James the Apostle. Every January, the Fiesta de la Tradición Misionera fills the town with horsemen, bronco breaking, races and traditional food, drawing visitors from neighboring countries.
