Misiones Tradition Festival
Rodeo riding, ranch skills, asado a la estaca and music nights in the old Jesuit town of Santiago.
What it is
Organized by the Santiago Lions Club, this is considered Paraguay’s biggest country fair. Over four days there are displays of horsemanship, rodeo, horse breaking, traditional games, torín (a bloodless bull-baiting game) and music nights with national and international performers, plus asado a la estaca—meat slow-roasted on stakes over an open fire—and ranch-style food. The setting is Santiago, a former Jesuit reduction with a remarkable museum of religious statuary, in the heart of Misiones cattle country.
