Refugio Biológico Mbaracayú (Itaipú)
An Itaipú refuge in Salto del Guairá with the guided La Esperanza trail, a dock, a sculpture walk and good birdwatching.
What it is
This refuge sits on the shore of the Itaipú reservoir in Salto del Guairá and should not be confused with the Mbaracayú Forest Nature Reserve, which is a different protected area. According to Itaipú it offers the La Esperanza trail (about 970 metres with interpretive stations), the Statues Walk, a stingless and solitary bee refuge, a dock and picnic areas. In September 2026 the entity highlighted more than 300 bird species and is promoting it for birdwatching.
Schedule
Itaipú and the press list it Wednesday to Sunday, with guided departures through the morning and afternoon (hours change on holidays). Check current times before you go.
