General José Eduvigis Díaz e Itá Corá, puerto sobre el Paraná
A cattle town 30 km from Pilar with access to the Paraná at Itá Corá and close to Estero Bellaco, a 1866 battlefield.
What it is
General José Eduvigis Díaz is a picturesque town in southern Ñeembucú, about 30 km from Pilar along Route PY04. It lies 5 km from the Itá Corá port on the Paraná, from where you can reach Bobi Ñu island and other fishing islands. Very close is Estero Bellaco, one of the main settings of the Triple Alliance War. For visitors who enjoy the river, the beaches at Potrerito (in General Díaz) and Kuarahy Reike (in Itá Corá) are places for swimming and fishing. Residents work mostly in cattle ranching in a landscape of marshes and swamps. It is a good stop to round off a Great War circuit: the fighting at Estero Bellaco and Tuyutí happened around here, and the town's name honours the hero of Curupayty.
