Cerro Amor, uno de los picos más altos del Paraguay
A peak in the Ybytyruzú range, next to Tres Kandú, frequented by campers and hikers.
What it is
Cerro Amor is one of the peaks of the Ybytyruzú range, which holds the highest elevations in Paraguay, including Tres Kandú and Akatí. It is among the hills that attract campers and hikers from the Colonia Independencia area, alongside Corá, Akatí and Buena Vista. It lies northeast of Tres Kandú and is part of the landscape of chained bluish hills that characterises the reserve. It is an option for those who want a long day of hiking and nature. The area is woodland and clear streams; the reserve is habitat for rare species of flora and fauna, so it should be visited with respect. According to ABC Color (2021), Cerro Amor is 765 metres high and the fourth highest in the country; it is reached through the San Gervasio area of Independencia, where a local resident charges a small entrance fee for trail upkeep. Its name comes from the legend of an indigenous couple from rival tribes who took refuge on the summit.
