National Festival of Immigrant Communities
Ten immigrant communities show off their dances, costumes and food in the heart of the Colonias Unidas.
What it is
Hohenau, founded by German immigrants, celebrates the diversity of the Colonias Unidas with a festival featuring communities from Paraguay, Italy, Argentina, Japan, Switzerland, Brazil, Germany, Poland, Belgium and Ukraine. There’s a parade of delegations, traditional dances, the presentation of queens in traditional dress, orchestras, ballet and food from each community. It’s a great gateway into the immigrant history of southern Paraguay.
