National Ñandutí Festival
Folk music, dance and ñandutí lace in the town of weavers: two nights of competition for the Golden Ñandutí.
What it is
Itauguá, birthplace of ñandutí—the intricate, spiderweb-like lace whose name means “spiderweb” in Guarani—has hosted one of the country’s oldest folk festivals since July 1970. On Friday dance groups compete, and on Saturday, the main night, winners of the preliminary rounds vie for the Ñandutí de Oro (Golden Ñandutí), with guest artists. There’s a ñandutí fair with affordable prices and traditional food. Entry has been free in recent editions.
