Coronel Bogado National Chipa Festival
The “national chipa capital” celebrates its cassava bread with chipas of every kind, butifarra sausages and big shows.
What it is
Coronel Bogado sells thousands of chipas a day to travelers on Route PY01 and proudly holds the title of national chipa capital (2017). At the 2025 festival, “Chipa de Coronel Bogado” received the country’s second geographical indication from DINAPI, Paraguay’s intellectual property office. Its year-end festival brings together the town’s chipa bakeries with chipas in every style, butifarras, sopa paraguaya and drinks, plus local dance academies and national cumbia and rock bands. It’s a big, popular party in the height of summer.
What to see and do

Tips
The roadside chipa bakeries are open almost all day: an ideal stop on the way to Encarnación. December is scorching, so the festival happens at night.
