Yataity Ao Po’i Expo
The town of ao po’i shows off its hand-embroidered fabrics with fashion shows, an embroidery contest and loom demonstrations.
What it is
Yataity is the birthplace of ao po’i, the fine hand-embroidered cotton fabric that is the pride of Paraguayan craftsmanship; an estimated 2,200 people in the district make their living directly from it. During the expo there’s an ongoing exhibition and sale of garments, fashion shows, the Miss Ao Po’i pageant, a Mass with the blessing of the looms, an embroidery contest and spinning and weaving demonstrations. It’s the best time of year to buy straight from the artisans.
