Cities · San Pedro · The North: river, hills and history
Santaní, as everyone calls it, is San Pedro's most populous city and the gateway to the north from Asunción. Built on gentle hills beside the Tapiracuái stream, it keeps its past alive in the old Jesuit college that later became Marshal López's barracks and is now the Museo Histórico. The parish church of San Estanislao de Kostka and the Ycuá Pa'í, the town's old spring, complete a short but rewarding stroll. All around, yerba mate and rural tourism set the rhythm of the area.
