Cities · Caaguazú · The East: water, energy and borderlands
Capital of Caaguazú department and a key junction in the national road network, Coronel Oviedo is where Route PY02 heading east crosses PY08, which links the north and south. Many travelers pass straight through, but the city has a life of its own: bustling commerce, universities, the Orquesta Filarmónica Ovetense (the city's philharmonic orchestra) and an active cultural calendar. The surrounding countryside offers rural tourism on farms and estancias (country ranches) with swimming pools, fishing and home cooking. The best time to visit is late September and early October, when the city honors Our Lady of the Rosary and celebrates its founding.
