Parque Nacional Médanos del Chaco
Stabilized dunes, sandy plains and dry forest in the far northwest: home to Paraguay's only guanacos.
What to see and do
- Dunes and sandy plains with their own distinctive vegetation, unique in the country
- A small wild population of guanacos
- Jaguar, taguá and giant armadillo in one of the Chaco's largest blocks of forest
- Part of the Dry Chaco corridor of protected areas, together with Defensores del Chaco and Teniente Enciso
Access
Very remote, with no tourist infrastructure. You'll need a 4x4 and must arrange your visit in advance with the park rangers, who work out of Teniente Enciso National Park. Only recommended on guided expeditions.
