Misterios de la Encarnación
A monthly tour of the Church of the Encarnación, with stories, legends and a climb to the rooftop with views of downtown.
What it is
The tour began in 2019 and resumed in 2022 after the pandemic. It tells how the church moved six times since 1539 and that the current building was inaugurated in 1912. Visitors see the interior, with a basilica plan and mixed styles, and climb to the rooftop for a view over the historic center. Because the building is old, the climb is done in groups of 15 to 20 people.
Schedule
Once a month on a Sunday; a 2024 source says the second Sunday and the city government in 2026 says the third, and October has extra dates. One 2025 edition was at 16:00. Check current times before you go.
Cost
Free, according to the Asunción city government (the 2025 edition needed no prior sign-up).
How to book
The Asunción city government's Culture and Tourism office posts dates, times and spots on its official social media accounts (Cultura ASU / Turismo ASU). Check there to see whether you need to sign up.
