Yellow lapacho (yellow trumpet tree)
Handroanthus albus, H. ochraceus y H. pulcherrimus · tajy sa'yju
The golden successor to the pink tajy: blazing yellow crowns at the end of winter.
What it is
This name covers several lapacho species with large yellow tubular flowers. They are shorter than the tajy hũ and have softer wood. One of them, Handroanthus pulcherrimus, is typical of hills and ranges with sandy soils. They are also national trees, since the law includes all lapachos, and more and more are being planted along sidewalks and in squares.
Did you know…?
They bloom shortly after the pink ones. For a few weeks you can see the country painted pink and yellow at the same time.
Season
Late August and September, after the pink lapacho.
Where
Hills and ranges of the Eastern Region (Cordillera, Paraguarí, Guairá), the squares of Asunción and towns across the country. In Ñeembucú there are initiatives to plant it at landmark sites.
