Jabiru mycteria · tujuju
The largest stork in the Americas: white, with a black head and an unmistakable red collar.
What it is
Standing 1.20 to 1.40 m tall with a wingspan of close to 3 m, it is the tallest flying bird in Central and South America. It fishes in shallow water and builds enormous nests high in isolated trees, where the pair raises 2 to 4 chicks. It is the classic image of the Chaco and Pantanal wetlands.
