What it is

On September 29, 1932, the Paraguayan army retook Fortín Boquerón after a long siege, its first great victory of the Chaco War against Bolivia. The date is a national holiday, commemorated with official and military ceremonies at the historic site, which preserves trenches, a museum and a soldiers’ cemetery. The rest of the year, Boquerón makes a moving side trip from the Mennonite colonies of the Central Chaco.
