Festival del Ovecha Ragué, Música y Artesanía
San Miguel's wool festival: weaving, a Misiones breakfast, an allegorical parade and music on the plaza.
What it is
San Miguel calls itself the town that keeps you warm, and its festival honours the craft of turning sheep's wool into ponchos, blankets, hats and garments. It began in June 1990 at the initiative of San Miguel natives living in Asunción, grew from one day to four, and is now run by the municipality's culture department on the San Miguel Arcángel plaza. The programme usually includes exhibition and sale of weavings by local artisans, a fashion show with wool textiles, an allegorical parade dedicated to the craft, a Misiones-style breakfast of mbeju, chipa asador and cocido quemado, a criollo lunch, folk dances and music, and horse-riding displays. In 2026 it added a religious procession and a World Cup match screening.
