The country’s most iconic cultural festival: folk music, dance, theater, poetry, jazz and rock in the lake town.
What it is
Born in 1971 to showcase Paraguay’s cultural wealth, the Lake Festival was banned by the dictatorship in 1986 and reborn in 1988, with the support of Father Benito Páez, as a symbol of resistance. Today it runs for about two weeks with nights of theater, poetry, jazz and dance, a national dance festival, a craft fair and the traditional main night, closing with rock. It’s held at Ypacaraí’s Municipal Events Center.
