Ita Karu Festival
Music in an old southern town, named after the magnetite found in the Aguaray stream.
What it is
In Yuty’s Aguaray stream there are deposits of magnetite, the itakaru or “stone that eats”: local belief holds that it brings good luck if you “feed” it bits of steel. The town’s main festival, created in 1982 as part of the September 8 patron saint celebrations, takes its name from it. It’s a festival of music and get-togethers in one of the south’s towns of colonial origin, home to the 1909 Fierro Punta railway bridge over the Pirapó River.
