What it is

Naranjal, a farming colony in southern Alto Paraná, hosts a festival devoted to slow-roasted beef ribs. In 2025 they roasted 178 rib racks of 28 to 30 kilos each—nearly 5,000 kilos of meat for some 8,000 people—and the proceeds went to local schools, churches and the volunteer fire brigade. It’s a barbecue feast in the style of the eastern colonies, with many families of Brazilian and European descent taking part.

What to see and do

  • Ribs roasted over embers for hours
  • Farming-colony atmosphere
  • A festival that supports local institutions

Tips

Arrive around noon, when the ribs are just right. Naranjal’s hotels sell out a month in advance, so look in Santa Rita too. Bring a warm layer: July can be cold.

Dates may shift to the nearest weekend.
