What it is

San Juan Bautista, capital of Misiones department and birthplace of the guitarist Agustín Pío Barrios Mangoré, celebrates three flavors of its local cooking: batiburrillo, a spiced stew of beef offal cooked in an iron pot; siriki; and chorizo sanjuanino, the town’s own sausage. For two summer nights Plaza Boquerón fills with stalls run by cooks and small producers, live shows and families. It’s a free, very local popular celebration.

Tips

Free entry. Bring cash. Take the chance to visit the Mangoré House Museum and the Jesuit reductions of San Ignacio and Santa María.
