Atyrá Leather Expo
The country’s biggest showcase of leather goods, on the pedestrian street of Paraguay’s “cleanest town.”
What it is
Atyrá is Paraguay’s leather town: its workshops make handbags, wallets, shoes, belts, hats and saddles. Every October the Expocuero gathers them along the Indio José pedestrian street, together with basketry, farm produce, food, music and dancing. It’s part of the Arete Guasu Atyrápe, the town’s big festival for Saint Francis of Assisi and its founding anniversary, with a student parade on October 4.
What to see and do

Tips
A good time to buy at maker’s prices: compare stalls and ask for custom finishes. Combine it with Caacupé and San Bernardino, just a few kilometers away.
