Yguazú Expo
The colony founded by Japanese families in 1961 celebrates its anniversary with shows, Nikkei culture and great food.
What it is
Yguazú was founded in 1961 as a colony of Japanese immigrants and today is one of the most important Nikkei (Japanese-descendant) communities in Paraguay. Its expo, organized by the cooperative, the Japanese Association, the municipality and the local tourism association, marks the anniversary with shows, entertainment and food that blends Paraguayan and Japanese flavors. There’s a Japanese carnival, a farmers’ market, a barbecue festival and, in some years, hot-air balloons; more than 30,000 people came in 2025. Entry is free and the atmosphere is family-friendly.
