Valenzuela Pineapple Fair and Festival
The “pineapple capital” celebrates its star fruit with juices, sweets, a pineapple tunnel and music in the town square.
What it is
In Valenzuela, pineapples grow among the rocks and come out especially sweet and juicy. In early January, at the peak of the harvest, the San José parish hosts the Expo Piña in the main square: growers sell fresh pineapples, juices, jams, salads and cakes, a tunnel of pineapples greets visitors at the entrance, and there are live performances. Some editions have included tours of the plantations. It’s a simple, very local summer outing.
What to see and do
- Pineapple tunnel at the entrance
- Fresh pineapples and homemade sweets
- Harvest tours (depending on the year)
Tips
Bring a cooler if you want to take pineapples and sweets home. It’s very hot at midday, so go early. The parish runs the event, so check the date before you go each year.
Dates may shift to the nearest weekend.
