National Tereré Day (Bella Vista)
The yerba mate capital celebrates the national drink with a yerba fair, live preparation demos and the Tereré Fest.
What it is
Tereré, the ice-cold infusion of yerba mate with medicinal herbs, has been on UNESCO’s list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2020. Its national day was championed by Bella Vista, the “national capital of yerba mate,” where the Paraguayan Yerba Center hosts a brand exhibition, tastings, preparation demos, crafts, regional food and an evening music festival. Across the country people celebrate with tereré rounds in squares, offices and homes.
