Obligado Choppfest
One of the country’s oldest and busiest beer festivals: draft beer, German cooking and brass bands since 1973.
What it is
Born in 1973 among German settlers who got together to go bowling, the Choppfest of Obligado’s German Cultural and Sports Society is one of Paraguay’s great beer festivals: in 2024 it celebrated its 52nd edition with some 20,000 liters of draft beer and more than 20,000 expected visitors. Over three days there’s an opening motorcade, a dinner show, a main night with two stages and international bands, and a closing lunch with brass orchestras. Many attendees come in traditional dress. It’s the best way to discover the German heritage of the Colonias Unidas.
