What it is
Colonia Independencia, founded by German immigrants at the foot of the Ybytyruzú range, has held its Chopp Fest (chopp is draft beer) at the Club Deportivo Alemán for more than four decades. In 2025 its 46th edition drew more than 20,000 people over two nights. There’s a German buffet with pork, sausages, breads and desserts, ice-cold draft beer from the sponsoring brewery and popular bands; for 2026 the announced lineup includes La Mosca, Kchiporros, Grupo Escucha and Onda Rapai.

Tips
In 2026 advance tickets cost ₲150,000 (at choppfest.com.py, until November 6). Book a hotel or cabin in the colony early; the next day, visit the Salto Suizo waterfall.
